Service & Outreach

St. Virgil parish is a community of caring people…
…who live the Gospel message of caring and compassion. Join us in the following service and outreach programs:

Thanksgiving Food Drive
The parish works in conjunction with the Interfaith Food Pantry and local families to provide hundreds of dinners for those in need. The drive is held to collect food needs the week prior to Thanksgiving so that Food Baskets can be prepared for Thanksgiving.

Star of Bethlehem Tree
This project conducted in December each year, collects gift cards which are distributed to four area agencies who in turn distribute them to their clients. These gifts cards are used by the clients to purchase Christmas presents.

Operation: Chillout
This project conducted in December each year, collects new clothing items for the homeless in Morris County.

Appalachian Outreach
Parish teens and adults spend one week in Harlan, Kentucky, each summer helping to rebuild housing for the poor. The teens spend the fall, winter and spring months fund raising to finance their trip.

Interfaith Food Pantry
A weekly project (year round) to provide non-perishable food for the poor through our participation in the ecumenical effort of the Morris County Interfaith Food Pantry. If you wish to join the rotation of parishioners who deliver the collected to the Food Pantry warehouse, please contact the parish office.

Parish Carnival
This major fund raising event takes place the second week of May. This community-building event had the help of over two hundred parishioners manning booths and the food court to make the event possible. This year over 4,000 Morris County residents enjoyed the rides and games.

Family Promise (formerly the Interfaith Council for Homeless)
The parish participates on a rotating basis with other churches to staff facility for homeless. Volunteers from our parish stay at the United Methodist Church in Chatham about four times a year for a week’s time. St. Virgil assists on Tuesday or Thursday evening to provide the evening meal and to supply support by staying overnight.
